Quickcast: Most people will think of stripers when they think of New Jersey fishing but there’s a whole lot of inland fishing to be experienced as well. There are more rivers and streams than anything but there are also lakes such as Greenwood Lake. On this Northern lake expect to find muskie, panfish, yellow perch, and walleye. The entire Western edge of New Jersey is bordered by the Delaware River and brings in fishermen for shad, smallmouth bass, walleye, rainbows, browns, muskie, pike and chain pickerel. In the middle to upper part of the state is the Round Valley Reservoir. This 2000 acre reservoir is known to have at least 19 species of fish including largemouth and smallmouth bass as well as rainbows, browns and lake trout. Looking in the southern third of the state anglers will find the Great Egg Harbor River which is about 50 miles long. This river is home to stripers, catfish species, white and yellow perch, various panfish and chain pickerel. This river empties out at Great Egg Harbor into the Atlantic Ocean where coastal fishermen go primarily for stripers. However, offshore fishing will also produce immense tuna, lots of shark species (including white sharks), swordfish, marlin, bluefish, flounders, tautog, sea bass and bonito. For full license information click here
